ARK OF HOPE – September 2026 Ministry Update

A Visit That Changed Our Hearts Finding Our “Why” at Mother Teresa Charity Home

Among the sixteen community eye camps that Ark of Hope has been privileged to conduct over the past year, one outreach touched our hearts more deeply than any other. It was our free eye care camp at the Mother Teresa Charity Home in Pokhara—a place that has become a refuge for those whom the world has forgotten.

This special outreach began with a heartfelt request from the Catholic Sisters who faithfully care for the residents of the home. They shared with us that many hospitals and clinics had been approached over the years, yet few were willing or able to provide eye care services for these vulnerable residents. Caring for elderly people with physical disabilities and mental illnesses requires extraordinary patience, compassion, and time.

When they learned about Ark of Hope’s mission to serve people with dignity and Christ-like compassion, they reached out and asked if we would be willing to organize a free eye care clinic.

Without hesitation, our answer was yes.

As we entered the home, we were immediately confronted with a reality that words can scarcely describe.

Many of the residents had been completely abandoned by their families. Some had been rescued from the streets. Others had no relatives willing to care for them. Nearly 90% of the residents were living with mental illnesses or cognitive disorders, while many also suffered from physical disabilities, poor vision, and chronic medical conditions. They were among the most vulnerable people in our society—men and women who desperately needed not only medical attention but also love, dignity, compassion, and human touch.

As my wife, Dr. Roni Gurung, and Indra began examining their eyes, I start Monitoring their Sugar and Blood Pressure Lever and other crew fitting eyeglasses, and caring for each resident, our hearts became overwhelmed with compassion.

We looked into eyes that had experienced rejection, loneliness, and years of silent suffering. Some smiled without speaking. Others could not communicate clearly because of their mental condition. Yet every face reminded us that each person is wonderfully created in the image of God and deeply loved by Him.

There were moments when it became difficult to continue our work because our eyes filled with tears.
It was heartbreaking to witness elderly men and women spending the final years of their lives without the comfort of family, without children to visit them, and without anyone to call their own. Their greatest need extended far beyond poor eyesight—they longed for compassion, acceptance, hope, and the assurance that someone still cared.

That day, the Lord spoke powerfully to our hearts.

Why?

As we served these precious people, my wife and I came to understand with greater clarity WHY God brought us back to Nepal.

Many people leave Nepal in search of greater opportunities and better lives abroad. Years ago, we too lived overseas and had opportunities to remain there. Yet God called us home—not for comfort, recognition, or financial success—but to serve those who are often unseen, forgotten, and overlooked.

Standing inside Mother Teresa Charity Home, surrounded by these precious lives, we knew beyond any doubt that this is why God called us here.

This is why Ark of Hope exists.

To bring hope where hope is scarce.

To bring healing where there is suffering.

To restore dignity where it has been lost.

And above all, to share the love of Jesus Christ with those whom society has forgotten.

Jesus Himself said,

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.”
Matthew 25:40

That verse became more than Scripture that day—it became a living reality before our eyes.

Our mission has never been simply to provide eye examinations or distribute eyeglasses. Those services are important, but they are only the beginning. Our calling is to minister holistically—to care for the physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual needs of every person God places before us.

Every eye we examine is an opportunity to show God’s compassion.

Every hand we hold is an opportunity to demonstrate His love.

Every prayer we offer is an opportunity to point someone toward the hope found only in Christ.

A Testimony That Encouraged Our Hearts

At the end of the clinic, the Catholic Sisters shared words that deeply touched us.

With tears in their eyes, they thanked God for sending Ark of Hope to serve the residents when so many others had been unable to help. They told us they had prayed that God would send a ministry willing to care for these forgotten people with patience, kindness, and compassion.

One of the Sisters shared that she had witnessed not only professional medical care but also genuine love expressed through every conversation, every examination, and every act of service.

They told us that Ark of Hope was different because we cared not only for the patients’ eyes but also for their dignity and humanity.

Their greatest prayer was that God would continue to bless Ark of Hope and enable it to grow into a multi-specialty healthcare center, where people from every background—especially the poor, abandoned, elderly, disabled, and marginalized—could receive comprehensive medical care under one roof with love, compassion, and respect.

Hearing those words humbled us beyond measure.

We silently thanked God for allowing us to become an answer to someone else’s prayers.

A Call to Pray and Partner

As we left the charity home that day, our hearts were both broken and strengthened. Broken because of the immense suffering we had witnessed, yet strengthened because we were reminded that even the smallest act of love can bring hope into someone’s darkest moments.

We believe there are many more people like these throughout Nepal—people who are poor, abandoned, elderly, disabled, forgotten, and without access to healthcare or the Gospel. They are waiting for someone to care enough to come.

We humbly ask you to continue standing with us in prayer.

Please pray that God will open more doors for Ark of Hope to reach the forgotten, the marginalized, and the unreached communities of Nepal.

Pray that He will raise up compassionate hearts, generous partners, churches, healthcare professionals, and organizations who will join us in this mission. Your support enables us to care for people holistically—meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in the name of Jesus Christ.

Please also pray that God will provide the resources needed for Ark of Hope to become a multi-specialty healthcare center, where patients can receive quality medical care with dignity, compassion, and the love of Christ, regardless of their ability to pay.

With Deep Gratitude

Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to every individual, church, organization, and faithful supporter who has stood beside Ark of Hope through your prayers, encouragement, generosity, and unwavering partnership.
